Privacy policy
Effective October 14, 2026
This policy explains how Open Lantern Media LLC ("we") handles information for the This Moment, Later iPhone app and this support website.
Information the app uses
- Selected media: the photo, video, or audio file you select, its filename, file size, and technical properties needed to copy or preview it. Files can contain embedded metadata, including the location where a photo or video was taken. The app does not request device Location Services access, but it does not strip all metadata from selected files.
- Reminder details: the title, selected date, reminder time, time zone, filename, and playback link used in the calendar event.
- Connected-account information: Google or Microsoft authorization credentials and account, folder, file, and calendar identifiers needed to save and reuse copies in the correct account. You sign in with the provider; we do not receive your Google, Microsoft, or Apple password.
- Local preferences: selected storage/calendar, reminder time, folder access bookmarks, shortcut setup confirmation, and media fingerprints used to identify identical copies. Fingerprints and copy indexes are stored locally, not in a publisher analytics service.
Where information goes
| Choice | What happens |
|---|---|
| iCloud Drive | The app copies the selected media into your chosen iCloud Drive folder. Apple manages syncing and storage. |
| Google Drive | The app sends the selected file and its filename directly to Google for storage in your Google Drive app folder. |
| OneDrive | The app sends the selected file and its filename directly to Microsoft for storage in your OneDrive app folder. |
| Calendar | The selected calendar receives the reminder title, date/time, alarm, and notes containing the media link or filename. Calendar and storage choices are independent. Calendar syncing is managed by the calendar provider. If you use a calendar attachment/export option, its exported calendar file can also include the selected media. |
Google and Microsoft receive authorized service requests, including account credentials and normal connection information, such as your IP address. Those providers retain your files and events in your account under their policies. We do not automatically make your files public or create anonymous sharing links. Existing sharing permissions in your cloud folder or calendar still apply; anyone you have shared them with may be able to see the content or reminder details.
Permissions and account connections
Photos and Files supply the items you choose. Apple Calendar access is used to select or create a reminder calendar and save events. Google requests drive.file access for files used with the app and calendar.app.created for app-created calendars. Microsoft requests delegated file read/write access and, when Outlook Calendar is selected, calendar read/write access. Microsoft permissions can cover more than the app folder even though the app's upload workflow uses its app folder. Offline-access authorization allows the app to reconnect without asking you to sign in for every save.
The optional Siri workflow uses Apple's Siri and Shortcuts services to pass selected content and your date response to the app. iCloud playback uses the ThisMomentLater shortcut and folder access you approve. Apple's policies govern Siri, dictation, Shortcuts, and iCloud processing.
Our use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
Storage and retention
Temporary media copies are staged on your device while a save is prepared. The app protects these staged files using iOS file protection, excludes the staging folder from backup, and normally removes it when finished. A terminated process can leave temporary files; the app cleans up stale transfer folders on a later launch. Credentials, preferences, and reuse records are stored in the device's Keychain or app storage. Some Keychain records can remain after uninstalling and be recognized after reinstalling on that device.
Saved cloud files and calendar events remain in your own accounts until you delete them. Removing the app or revoking access does not delete those files or events. We do not set a deletion schedule for your provider accounts. Provider retention, recovery, security, and backup practices apply.
Your choices and deletion
- Change storage and calendar choices in the app's Settings.
- Revoke access using Google Account connections or your Microsoft account's app permissions. If your Microsoft account is managed by an organization, its administrator may manage access. You can also change Photos and Calendar permissions in iPhone Settings.
- Delete cloud copies in iCloud Drive, Google Drive, or OneDrive, and delete reminders in your calendar. Deleted media may break calendar playback links. Provider trash/recovery settings govern final deletion.
- Remove the playback or Siri shortcut in Apple's Shortcuts app if you no longer want it.
- Contact us about personal information you have sent directly to support. We can address information we control; account providers control their own stored files and events.
This Moment, Later does not create a separate account with Open Lantern Media, so there is no publisher account to delete.
Support and diagnostics
If you email support, we receive your email address, message, and anything you choose to attach. We use that information to respond and troubleshoot, and retain correspondence as needed to resolve your request, maintain support records, or meet legal obligations. Avoid sending passwords, authorization tokens, or private media unless you want it included in your support request.
The app contains no advertising, analytics, or third-party crash-reporting SDK. Upload percentage and transfer-rate feedback are calculated for display on your device. Apple may process App Store, TestFlight, and diagnostic information under your Apple settings and Apple's policies. Cloud providers may keep service and security logs.
This website
The site provides public support and privacy information without registration. We have not added analytics, advertising, contact forms, or tracking scripts. Hosting providers may process ordinary web request information, such as IP addresses, browser details, and security logs, to serve and protect the site. Email links open your email app; no message is sent unless you send it.
General audience and policy updates
The app is intended for a general audience. We do not knowingly solicit personal information from children under 13 through support. Contact us if you believe a child has provided information to us that should be removed. We may update this policy when features or practices change and will update the effective date above.
